USDA: IL, MO, AR Soybeans In Worst Shape; Corn Declines Overall

Soybean condition rose a point on a national basis to 54 percent good-excellent this last week, according to Monday’s USDA Crop Progress report. That compares with 69 percent on the same date a year ago.
Corn that is still rated in the good-excellent category fell by two points versus a week ago. Corn condition is now rated 53 percent good-excellent, compared with a 77 percent rating in those categories a year ago at this time.
Nearly half (46 percent) of Illinois corn is rated in the very poor or poor categories, USDA said.
Of the 18 major soybean states, Missouri and Illinois soybeans are in the worst shape, with 33 percent of the crop in each state rated poor or very poor. Arkansas is right behind them—30 percent poor-very poor.
For the nation, soybeans are ahead of last year and of the five-year average in terms of percent blooming and percent setting pods.
