Agronomy | August 3, 2005

8/01/2005—Rust found in second AL county. Per the USDA Alabama state commentary and USDA alerts this afternoon, Asian soybean rust was confirmed by PCR on three leaves collected July 29 from a sentinel plot on Auburn University’s campus in Lee County.

That follows the announcement Friday of two more GA counties with rust: Brooks and Effingham. A kudzu sample from Hamilton County, Fla., was confirmed 7/29 as soybean rust by microscopy, per the Florida state rust site. It has been sent for PCR testing, along with a sample found 7/29 in Alachua County, Fla.
