ALERT: New northern frontier for rust finds is Putnam County, GA

The new “northern-most” 2005 U.S. soybean rust find was confirmed Tuesday in the Putnam County, GA, sentinel plots. The leaves were pulled on Sunday, August 14, and declared to be rust-infected based on many pustules and copious sporulation on a number of leaves.

Yesterday, the first find in South Carolina (in Hampton County) had become the furthest north rust had spread. Now, the Putnam County find, three counties north-northwest of infected Laurens County, GA, sets the northern-most point in the state and the nation so far this season.
