The USDA will release the first forecast of the size of the 2005 U.S. corn and soybean crops on August 12. The final estimate of the crop size could be much different than the August forecast, but this report provides the starting point for guessing the final size.

BLOOMINGTON, IL – Even though university researchers have identified a probable glyphosate-resistant Palmer pigweed case at specific sites in Georgia-one that they are calling a “difficult to control” case until it is confirmed through genetic testing-Illinois soybean farmers can rest assured that their checkoff investment is investigating weed control and resistance, and so far, no weeds in the state have been found to be glyphosate resistant.

8/01/2005—Rust found in second AL county. Per the USDA Alabama state commentary and USDA alerts this afternoon, Asian soybean rust was confirmed by PCR on three leaves collected July 29 from a sentinel plot on Auburn University’s campus in Lee County.

A spore trap in Champaign County, Illinois has turned up 4 rust-like spores, but plant pathologists are quick to say that this finding does NOT mean we have Asian soybean rust infection in Illinois.
