Biotech crops produces less greenhouse gases and use less pesticides
Agronomy | October 21, 2005

After nine years of commercialization, biotech crops have resulted in a decrease of 14 percent in pesticide use in the United States.

Greenhouse gas emissions from agricultural practices have also been reduced an estimated 1.8 billion liters in the past nine years, and additional soil carbon sequestration primarily because of reduced tillage and improved conservation tillage associated with biotech crops. In 2004, this reduction was equivalent to eliminating more than 10 billion kg of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, or removing 5 million cars from the road for one year. Biotech crops have helped reduced the volume of pesticide spraying globally by 6 percent since 1996.
