Hasenick and Morris chosen as Michigan Master Farmers

It’s been an incredibly mild winter for most of soybean country, with temperatures 20 or more degrees above normal in the Midwest for the last month. The ground is unfrozen in much of Iowa, and some farmers have been doing light tillage operations and fertilizer injection, normally unheard of in January.

Renessen to test higher-value ethanol production system in new pilot plant

Renessen LLC, a biotechnology company, today announced plans for a new pilot plant to test a unique technology system in which new biotech corn hybrids with increased energy and nutrient levels will be combined with a novel dry corn separation technique designed for ethanol facilities. The new system represents a step change in the agriculture and biofuels industries and has the potential to increase the profitability of corn growers, ethanol producers, and swine and poultry producers.

Soybean Rust Update

In 2006, Intensive scouting in Florida between January 11 and 13 resulted in positive finds of soybean rust in nine Florida counties: Polk, Duval, Leon, Alachua, Pasco, Hernando, Hillsborough, Lee, and Gadsden. Polk county was the only one of the nine county with no soybean rust finds in 2005.

NEVC Applauds Senators for Support of E85 Tax Credit

Jefferson City , MO – Eleven U.S. Senators have recently signed a letter in support of the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Tax Credit that was enacted January 1, 2006. The letter urges Secretary John Snow to expedite the IRS guidance and rulemaking so that the new credit may be used by fuel retailers to install E85 infrastructure.

MISSOURI SOYBEAN AND CORN ASSOCIATIONS OPPOSE BIOFUEL EXPANSION IN COUNTIES WITH HEALTH ORDINANCES

From The Farm Gate: We Need to Find a Home for a Lot of Soybeans

And as you know the economic conditions for the “homeless” are rather dismal. Although an aberration in the market has recently allowed producers to enjoy $6 prices, those numbers are fading in the wake of market fundamentals the US Department of Agriculture reports are realities.

Don’t turn cold shoulder to winter manure rules
