The Michigan Corn office recently launched their newly designed website, www.micorn.org. The site has been completely revamped to provide more information to not only the state’s corn producers, but to the general public as well.
The website had previously been a one-page site with minimal information. The new site includes information about the Corn Marketing Program of Michigan (CMPM) and the Michigan Corn Growers Association (MCGA), newsletters, press releases, and links to many other organizations that also provide information pertinent to the corn industry.
Visitors of the site will be able to navigate easily through topics such as research, education, MCGA membership, news and events. Photos are used throughout the site to highlight the many CMPM and MCGA events and tradeshows.
“We have tried to incorporate the hot topics by linking to corn heating systems and ethanol information directly from the home page,” said Jody E. Pollok, CMPM and MCGA executive director. “On a daily basis most of our phone calls and questions are related to those two areas.”
Rather than try to incorporate too much information into the site, a resource page is included with links to many other websites that provide additional resources. Many of these sites include the latest information on new uses and products as well as ethanol including pump locations for E85 fuel.
Lyn Uphaus, CMPM president and corn producer from Manchester notes, “We have listed the current research projects on the site so that at any time producers may look at research being done that may benefit their own operation or the corn industry overall. The CMPM and MCGA boards put a lot of time and effort into deciding which projects to fund, and we want to make growers aware of the research projects their dollars are funding. In addition, the annual research report of completed projects is now readily available on the website.”
New enhancements are regularly being added to the site to increase the information available and the calendar is updated frequently to include meetings and events relevant to the corn industry. Handouts for teachers to use in the classroom will also soon be available on the site. Through a partnership with the Garden Club of Greater Lansing, participating schools will be able to download the materials needed for their annual Corn Project where approximately 3,000 kindergarten and first graders in the greater Lansing area are given corn seeds to plant and grow their very own corn. Visitors are encouraged to bookmark the site and visit it often.
Headquartered in DeWitt, the CMPM is a legislatively-established statewide program that utilizes one-cent per bushel of Michigan corn sold. Investments are made in the areas of research, education, market development, and new uses in an effort to enhance the economic position of Michigan corn producers. The CMPM works cooperatively with the MCGA, a grassroots-membership association representing the state’s corn producer’s political interests.
