Soybean Aphids Are Here Early!
Agronomy | June 26, 2006

It may be a heck of an aphid year! Here’s an update:

  • Populations are low
  • Aphids are present in most fields
  • Aphids are easily found on the top trifoliates
  • Aphids like warm, dry weather
  • This is very early for soybean aphids, yet does not mean that we will have high populations
  • Don’t treat if aphids are below the threshold of 250 aphids/plant
  • If we treat too early, we may need to treat again later
  • There are many sources of mortality for aphids, such as lady beetles and fungal diseases
