  With fall just around the corner it’s a great time to consider treating biennial and perennial thistles. Research has shown the fall timing to be an effective time to treat these as long as foliage isn’t damaged by frost.

  This four-page publication covers potential soil conservation and nutrient management benefits associated with planting winter cereal rye following harvest of corn silage.
• Federal Disaster Assistance for Vegetable Growers Affected by Recent Floods and Droughts
  The recent flooding and heavy rainfall in parts of Wisconsin made national news. Given the federal disaster declaration for some Wisconsin counties, many vegetable farmers are wondering about the availability of federal assistance for their crop losses. This bulletin is a quick summary of current federal programs available for these and other farmers and some basic recommendations.
• Collecting Lambsquarters Seed for Testing Plant Response to Glyphosate
  We’re interested in continuing our testing of common lambsquarters populations that have escaped control with glyphosate. If there is no readily apparent reason for the lambsquarters to escape control, these lambsquarters may have a low level of resistance to glyphosate. We want to test seedlings from these plants this winter in our continuing effort to better understand potential changes in lambsquarters sensitivity to glyphosate.
