2007 National Corn Yield Contest a Record-Breaker

The 2007 National Corn Yield Contest will be one for the record books, according to the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA).

When the winners are announced next week, there will be a record number of entries – 4,932, which is 56 percent more than 2006. In addition, 24 entries recorded yields of 300 bushels or more per acre.

“We were so excited to see the high number of entries for 2007, a year when our farmers were also breaking records for corn production and export,” said David Ward, chairman of NCGA’s Production and Stewardship Action Team and a grower from Mapleton, Minn. “U.S. corn growers are committed to meeting and surpassing all demands for food, feed, fuel and fiber, and we have been doing so in a more sustainable fashion.”

NCGA anticipates the 27 national winners for 2007, three in each of nine categories, will be posted on the NCGA Web site by 5 p.m. Central Standard Time Monday, Dec. 17. Information on state winners will follow. Click here for more information about the contest, and to review previous winners.
