I have been getting quite a bit of interest in how corn dries down after maturity this week.

With the cold weather, corn actually can still lose moisture. I have found that typically corn will lose 0.3%-0.4% moisture per day on the “cooler days”. On the “warmer” days corn typically loses 0.6%-0.8% moisture per day. So there can be variability depending on many factors but on average this is what I’ve seen.

ISU put out a great article about reducing harvest loss. I’ve had a few calls earlier in the week about it. Keep your combine speed around 3 mph, adjust your stripper plates accordingly, watch your snouts and chains, and think about harvesting earlier. Let me throw an opinion out there about early corn.

I would caution that some hybrids don’t move south very well. Our products yield like crazy because your DSM’s position them correctly. Not like other companies who drop off a pallet of seed and say see you in the fall.

If you are looking to move earlier in maturity to aid in dryer gas usage, you can’t go wrong with our early corn. 4689G3VT3 going 251 bu per acre!!!! Wow that has a lot of yield potential.
