Learn The Process
- To ensure that purity is maintained during the breeding process, herbicide tolerant, insect tolerant and other technology trait nurseries are separated and bordered to minimize pollen drift.
- Molecular marker probes are used to verify the presence and purity of the event after the third generation of backcrossing.
- The new inbred line containing the event will be observed for physical characteristics, yield and breeding stability.
- After the line has completed development, it is passed to the Foundation Seeds Department for increase. A certificate will accompany the line verifying it meets quality standards.
Event Origination
Technology suppliers are required to provide a certificate validating that we have received the correct genetically modified event. Events are verified in our molecular marker lab before being incorporated into new inbred lines. Our inbred line Conversion Coordinator interfaces with plant breeders, the molecular marker lab and our year-round breeding program to incorporate selected traits into our unique genetic lines.
